These are ideal jobs to fit around family commitments (there may be occasions when training will take place during school holidays - but this is only normally one day). Examples of the types of posts available are listed below. The hours and the grade of the post are subject to variation in accordance with an agreed productivity scale set out in the pay conditions of service package.
You will help to prepare and serve meals, setting up the dining areas and wash up. These are ideal roles for people who can work effectively as part of a team, have a flexible approach to work and who can communicate effectively with staff and pupils. Hours range from 5 to 15 per week.
You will assist the Cook in Charge with cooking, serving meals, washing up, book-keeping and training. You will also assist other staff with special functions and training days, covering for the absence of the Cook in Charge. Some cash handling may be required. Hours range from 7½ to 30 per week.
You will assist a van driver in delivery meals to, and collecting money from, Meals Direct recipients either at home or in luncheon clubs. Hours range from 7½ to 20 per week.
You will drive a vehicle in an area of the community and deliver meals to and collect money from Meals Direct recipients. Hours range from 7½ to 20 per week.
Cook in Charge
You will be responsible for the general supervision of the kitchen and staff as well as cooking, serving of meals and cleaning. You will also complete administration work in relation to the running of the kitchen. Ideally you must have large scale catering experience, backed up by NVQ Level 2 or an equivalent level of experience, together with the ability to lead and motivate a team and have an adaptable, flexible approach to work. You will need skills to communicate effectively with staff and customers. Hours range from 15 to 37 per week.
