Manchester Fayre wins national LACA Change4Life Award

13 July 2016

LACA Awards for Excellence (Lead Association for Catering in Education) are a national award and recognises excellence in catering teams and organisations across the country. We are thrilled to announce that at the recent LACA Awards, Manchester Fayre won the prestigious Change4Life Award!

The award was in recognition of the strategic approach that we have taken to gradually reduce the amount of sugar served on our menus, through our ‘second course’ menu concept, and also for the supporting health promotion lessons that the nutrition team carry out with pupils in schools to encourage the uptake of healthy food and drink choices.

We calculated that as a result of our second course menu concept, we have reduced the free sugars served on our school menus in the last school year by circa 97 ½ tonnes, or 3 large limestone lorries worth, (from 156,000kg to 58,500kg) a huge 62.5% reduction!

We are also extremely proud of The Barlow High School Catering Team, led by Joanne Murray Unit Manager, who were also short-listed for LACA’s Secondary School Catering Team. The judging team will have scrutinised the team’s nomination against hundreds of entries, therefore to be short-listed is an achievement in itself and demonstrates that as a catering team, they feature within the top three in the country! Well done Joanne and team!
