1. Make the pastry by rubbing the fat into the four until it looks like breadcrumbs.

2. Add enough water to bring it together without being to wet. Roll out on a floured surface to fit approx 15 cm round flan dish.

3. Cream the margarine and sugar together, beat in the egg, add the flour, baking powder, ground rice, almond essence and mix well. Add enough milk to make a dropping consistency.

Serving Suggestion

serve hot with custard or ice cream, or cream or cold as a cake
